Dental Assistant Externship

Albuquerque Dental Assistant School 40-hour externship program provides our students with the real-world experience they need to become confident and qualified dental assistants. The externship portion of our course allows our students the opportunity to work under the direct guidance of experienced dental professionals in a local dental office. Students are eligible to begin their externships after class 6. Although we encourage our students to find their own externships, our Student Success Specialists are here to help our students identify potential opportunities in the area and assist with applications.

Required Reading

You are required to either purchase or rent the Essentials of Dental Assisting textbook for class. ElSevier can take 3-4 weeks to ship, whereas Amazon offers faster shipping. You may purchase (or rent) your books elsewhere as long as it is the same edition used in the course.

What Do I Get After Graduation?

We are authorized and licensed by the New Mexico Department of Higher Education, Private Postsecondary Schools Division. Upon completion, students will receive their certificate of completion and their BLS certification through the American Heart Association, which states that they are ready to enter the workforce as a Dental Assistant.

Radiography Requirements: After completion of our course, students can then apply for Expanded Function Certification in Radiography (the process will be gone over with you in class!) within 6 months after graduation. This includes: DANB RHS (Radiation Health & Safety) Exam, Radiography Clinical Exam (taken after radiography training permit has been issued), & New Mexico State Jurisprudence Exam (part of the application for radiography training permit. It is in a take-home, open book format). The student will be reimbursed for the first attempt only for the RHS exam after they have provided proof they have passed it and obtained a certificate of completion.
